copying from DVD

I am not sure if my question is truely related to XL but here goes.
I have taken a Ghost Image of my relatively unused hard drive. It occupies 2
DVDs in 6 files.
I want to use Ghost Explorer on them to extract some files.
But this requires so much Disc swapping I have never succeeded.
So I have tried to copy the files to a second small hard drive I also have
on the same PC to get them all in the same place.
Out of the 6 files, I copy 3 OK but on the 4th, the time to go during
transfer rockets to 60 minutes and I get an error message "Cannot copy
CDR00004:Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)"
This happens whether I use my DVD burner or DVD player.
I do know that if all the image files are in the same place (which I have
done by Ghosting them direct to my small hard drive) I can use Ghost Explorer
OK.
So my question is how do I copy them off the DVD without the error message??
Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards

Hi,

The error message essentially means that either your DVD disks are dirty or damaged and hence the
reader cannot read from it.

Cyclic Redundancy Check failure usually indicates that the file is corrupt.
When you chose to make the Ghost Image, you should have also selected the
option to verify the files created. Verification adds quite a bit of time
to the process, but would have prevented the situation you find yourself in
now. Since one of the 6 files is corrupt, it essentially renders the entire
image useless. I would not recommend trying to extract any data from the
image, as all data is now suspect.

In the future, use these tips:

Use the best quality DVD that you can afford. When backing up, the
quality of the disc you are imaging to is important.

Turn off or exit out of everything you possibly can. The fewer services
and programs you have running in the background while building and
transcribing the image, the better.

Burn at no more than 4x, even if your DVD writer can burn faster.

Verify the files created with Ghosts' verification tool, and then make
sure you can boot from the disc. You may also try Ghost Explorer to make
sure all files are readable.

If you follow all of the steps above, it will come as close as possible to
guaranteeing a perfect image.

Lastly, store the disc in a jewel case in a cool, dark location.

Many thanks for the input. I re-did the image burn to DVD(s), then as per
your advice, verified it was good and it was. Then I copied it to my hard
drive. One file still came up with the "Cyclic" error message, but copied OK
on the second attempt.
Ghost Explorer then worked.

Why not put on HDD first and copy to DVD? It would be quicker.
