Yes, I know, I know: what else is new? It seems that my P4 with xp service
pack 1 runs just great. But when I try that "last" update, you which one I
mean, all hell breaks loose. I cannot connect to the net, messenger, e-mail
etc. But what's worse (yes, there is a "worse") the computer goes into a
"coma" and is painfully slow much like my old 486!! After uninstalling
Service Pack 2, the computer is on steroids!! Very puzzling!! Of course,
Microsoft strongly encourages this update, but what can I do??

The last update upgraded windows installer to 3.1,try run, services, scroll down
to installer, double click on it,then change from manual to auto start, then
start
the service, close out.By default the manual selection is running, other than
that,
you can remove the update in add/remove programs, chk the box,"show updates"
top of page....
