Install hangs for XP Pro at registering components

I have tried and tried to get a new install of XP Pro to go on my system
after having numerous problems with my previous install.(ie. error messages
and the like regarding page faults and ISQL problems). But each and every
time I attempt a fresh install, it goes all the way through to the
Registering Components section and then stops at the 13 minute mark. If
anyone knows what the problem could be, please help. Below are my system
specs.

*ABit Fatal1ty AA8-XE mobo
*Intel P4 3.2GHz CPU
*Antec TruePower 550W ATX12V PSU
*1 GB DDR2 TWIN2X Corsair RAM
*ATI Radeon X850XT 256MB Graphics Card
*Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro Sound Card

Can we assume that you are installing XP on a computer that has only the
minmum of peripheral devices on it? In other words, keyboard, mouse,
monitor.

Hi,

Depends greatly. For starters, back up a bit and run the top few mentioned
here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_setup.htm

Keep us posted and we can continue from there. Good luck!

Had a look at the pages you recommended, and none of the stuff really
applies. The computer is way past minimum specs, has run a copy of XP Pro for
about 4 months with no problems, and includes the top components available at
the time of purchase.

The section it is in at the 13 minute mark is the Registering Components
section. It does everything up to that point perfectly (albeit a little
slowly) and then, when it reaches 13 minutes to go, the screen flashes once
and the system hangs. The HDD LED still flashes as though it is still being
written to, but no matter how long I wait, nothing else happens. I know it is
not my HDD (WD 74GB SATA) as I tried another one, and it was an older,
SeaGate HDD.
Previous to my attempted install, I tried playing SW KOTOR2. The program
hanged, so I ended it using the XP CTRL-ALT-DEL method. After this, the
system came up with an error message stating that the page file was corrupt
and therefore I rebooted the system as per instructions on-screen. After the
reboot, I could not access XP again as more error messages kept coming up,
such as Memory Allocation Errors and ISQL errors. The CHKDSK application
attempted to fix the problems at startup, but failed to finish at any time.
The problems still existed, and I attempted the fresh install through the XP
reformat and setup procedure that boots directly from CD. This is all the
info I can think of right now, but if anything else is required, just leave
it in a post. I appreciate all the help.

Install hangs for XP Pro at registering components
