PC trying to boot from Freecom external hard drive.

Drive worked fine for a few weeks. I didn't use for a week.
I reconnected and tried to boot up.
PC is trying to boot from external drive.
Disconnect drive & PC boots ok. Reconnect after PC has booted and ext drive
seem stuck in a start up loop - blue LED flashing/always on/off.
PC recognises drive in Device Manager but not in My Computer.
I suspect something may have altered in the bios setup but I am unsure how
to access this - I have a VIA VT8237 motherboard.
I am at a loss to what might have happened to create this situation.
Any help will be much appreciated.

mcmac, do this to find out your brand of BIOS:
Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Information
About nine lines down, you will see:
"BIOS Version / Date"
then...
Check this site for accessing your BIOS:
