I upgraded and now only a handful of my program files are noted when I click
on program files from the start menu. I have tried start menu properties w/o
succuss. Also the startup screen only says windows xp and no windows xp
professional as it did during installation but system review shows it's
installed.

I think that I should revise the question, it appears that the programs that
were in the start menu program files are not all there but are listed under
program files and some just under the c drive initial folder. How can I move
or correct this and move these folders back to the start menu.

Thanks

Sounds to me as if you did not upgrade but ran a new install therefore the
start program would not include those programs

Did you run the cd from with in windows or boot to it

1.If the programs still work, then they are properly installed and you
can just drag shortcuts to their executables to the Start Menu.
Right-click on the Start Button and choose "Explore All Users" and
you'll see everyone's Start menu.

If a program doesn't work properly, just reinstall it from the
installatoin media.

2. You upgraded with a copy of XP Pro that included Service Pack 2.
After applying SP2, the opening splash screen has been changed and will
no longer show the version. There is nothing wrong with your
installation; this is not a bug - it is a feature.
