I have been running XP home for a few months and have just about given up on finding a way to
place a shortcut for "search, for file or folders" with search hidden files and folders active, on
the desktop. With 95, 98, 98SE it was no problem, just format a blank search and save the results,
then make a shortcut to the results on the desktop, worked great, but no go with XP. Any ideas or
suggestions? I just want a simple, easy, and quick way to search all or one local hard drives for
a file, folder, word, or phrase. I do not wish to do a help, online search, or knowledge base
search. Thanks for listening.

This should help with some or all of your concerns:
In Search, click the option at the bottom of the Search panel called "Change
preferences."
Click the third option, "Change files and folders search behavior."
Select the second option, "Advanced."
OK
Put a shortcut in your Quick Launch and Search will be a breeze.
