Naughty Notepad

For some weeks now I have tried to fix a problem in Notepad.
I have also searched for a similar problem in Forums, but could not find one
to match mine.
Symptoms:
Clicking on Notepad minimises it to the Taskbar.
Right Click only maximises : I cannot Restore Down or move it about the
Desktop.
Notepad works fine when logging into Guest.
I do have have Notepad Lite, but still want to use Notepad.

Summary:
Window XP Pro SP2
No Viruses or Adware

Right-click on the shortcut > Properties

See if you have "minimised" in the Run box (General tab) , rather than
"Normal Window". If so, change it, and press ok.

Thanks Jon: I had previously checked that - it was Run Normal Windows.

Try right-clicking on "notepad.exe" in c:\windows\system32" and dragging it
to the desktop (then choosing "create shortcut here"). Does the shortcut
work ok?
If so delete the other notepad shortcut.

Appreciate your time and input Jon.
I tried this and put Shortcuts both on the desktop and other places.
The notepad opens but in minimised mode on the taskbar. I also checked the
System Optimizer in Norton Utilities for a possible tweak, but was unable to
identify anything that pointed to Notepad.
Very frustrating! :-(

You say you can open it also as maximized. Open it maximized and right click
on the top bar and select Restore. Then grab the corner at the bottom right
and pull the box closed to your liking. Then close it. Open it and what
happens? Post back with result.

Also try this

[Set a system restore point in case of errors]

Start > run > regedit

Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Notepad

Right-click on the "Notepad" key and choose export.
Save the file as Notepad.reg somewhere eg your desktop (just a backup file)

Then right-click on the "Notepad" key in the registry and choose delete
Close the registy editor

Then retry clicking the shortcut to Notepad.
