My question is this I have a new computer and I installed a dvd rewritable
drive and the computer does not recognize it, I have plugged everything with
care and it still says that there is nothing there. Could my cable be bad?
would it be that simple?
The drive I took out was just a dvd drive nothing rewritable or
special..would that even make an inpact? .any ideas??
thanks for your help!

Nothing.. as in it doesn't see the drive even to read from it?
If it sees a DVD drive, have you removed the driver in computer
management -> device management and rebooted to let it reinstall?
If it doesn't see anything and you have the jumpers set correctly and the
cables connected properly (with no bent pions - try the original drive in
the machine again and try the burner in a different machine - it could be
bad.

You could try to go into device manager and uninstall all DVD/CD-ROM
drives - then reboot. If you're lucky it will pick up the new drive.

Regards Leif.
