For a slow boot do some clean boot troubleshooting:

Right click on the start icon in the left corner of your desktop and then
click on open . When it opens click on the properties folder . Whatever you
see now is what opens when you turn on your computer . The icons that have
arrows are shortcuts and they are opening with windows Just delete them and
restart your computer . If the icon does not have an arrow in it , LEAVE IT
ALONE .

I wouldn't delete anything if you don't know what you're doing. The
instruction below is not correct or at least not for all XP computers.
When you click open, you'll see the programs folder and if you delete
that, you'll remove a lot of your shortcut links.

You might want to check to see if you have any spywares running on your
computer. You should also make sure that you have the latest security
patch and update from Microsoft.

Check for virus too and make sure you have the latest virus definition
file.

Do a disk cleanup and then run scandisk and disk defrag.
