Hello,

I've found this big (1GB) file C:\AUTOEXEC.AR~

I've searched for it on the net but I've found no entry.

Is it a "legal" and necessary file? Can I erase it?

This file is new to me, I have no memory of having seen it before.

Thank for your help,

Rafael P.

Create a new folder somewhere on the HDD and move the file to the
folder. Leave it there for a while. If this does not cause problems
with your applications you can delete the file.
The file is not used by Windows itself.

Thank you. I'll do that.

Best regards,

check when file was last time modified or created.
do you remeber to install any software on that day or do anything that would
slow down comp?

Hi,

It was created un Dec 2004 and modified in Feb 2005, too far away in time
for my poor memory. But the machine is a little sluggish... I pass at least
4 online antivirus scanners and the machine is "always clean"

I've heard a lot about Hijackthis... is it worth trying?

Regards,

Rafael
