VPN using dialup?

Hey, this is an issue that has bugged me for a while. Have only seen it
happen on XP Pro machines, but a number of times now.

I have a PPtP RAS box running at the office in addition to a Cisco
concentrator for VPN remote connections. I've kept the old RAS box running
because a few users' machines have problems running the Cisco client. Here's
the problem - 9 out 10 clients can be configured to run fine on the RAS VPN
connection, but I've run into a few that the New Connection Wizard seems to
ignore the 'Do not dial the initial connection' setting. These are usually
notebook clients that need to be configured to make the VPN connection using
a broadband connection, but typically also have an available dial-up
connection.

So what happens? I'll tell you what happens! The stinkin' machines ignore
their active Internet connection when you try to make the VPN connection and
bring up the dial-up dialog ignoring the intial setting to NOT make the
dialup connection. That's what they do, can you imagine it?

I'm posting this having checked TechNet without any clue forthcoming and the
fireworks are rained out, so what else to do on the 4th. Any pointers would
be appreciated. Oh, the machines are all up-to-date SP2 with all patches
current.
